The Nash Gallery is proud to announce that Las Cruces artist, Virginia Maria Romero will be the featurRomero-Peace-Be-With-You-Altared artist for the months of November and December.

There will be an artist reception at the gallery on Saturday, November 18, 2006, from 1pm to 4pm where visitors can meet the artist and discuss her inspirations and techniques.

The exhibit of this nationally recognized Santera’s work will include new pieces that she has recently created using her masterful technique of hand carving each piece and applying natural pigments which she grinds and mixes herself, such as ochre, black walnut, cochineal and pinon varnish.

Ms. Romero’s retablos, bultos, crosses and altar pieces reflect her totally unique interpretation of her art-form and her personal inspiration in the creation of each piece. She also has a series of whimsical pieces that depict animals of the desert and a line of tiles that contain images of her retablos.

The artist has been featured in publications such as New Mexico Magazine. Tradicion Revista, Journal of Contemporary & Traditional Spanish Colonial Art and Culture and The Trail of Painted Ponies, Collector’s Edition.

Please visit this artist’s page on this website to view a complete display of work available.

This artist shows at the Nash Gallery on an ongoing basis.
